"Earned Value Management"

In his presentation, David related facts, fables and war stories followed by an exchange of ideas on the past and future utility of Earned Value. The presentation included some history of Earned Value’s origins in the United States, its migration to Australia and discussion about its current and future relevance in projects both large and small. Along the way David related EVM to the Project Management Body of Knowledge and discussed the relevance of EV techniques to different types of projects.
David Read has been associated with project management since 1973 as a Project Officer, Manager and Director in the Royal Australian Navy, in various capacities as a civilian in the Australian Public Service and as a consultant. He has been closely associated with the development of Earned Value Performance Management in Australia since 1988. As Director of Project Management Systems (1988-1993) he was instrumental in the introduction of Earned Value into Australian Defence Contracting. Since 1993 he served briefly as the Australian director of operations for the US-based Decision Planning Corporation before founding Earned Value Systems Australia Pty Ltd in 1993 and Earned Value Systems in 1997.
David is a founder member and current National President of the Australian Performance Management Association, and a Member of the Australian Institute of Project Management. He is a qualified Member of the Project Management Recognition Council Assessor Network.
